The Art of The Letter
by Doyald Young
Published by SMART Papers
The Art of the Letter, designed entirely by Doyald Young, is a primer on font
structure, font comparison, type usage, history, typographic suggestions and
examples of logos produced by Doyald. This work is the second artist retrospective
published by SMART Papers and joins the award winning review of Arnold Newman
photography issued in 2001.
Over a five-decade career, Doyald Young has been both doer and teacher, combining
his design practice with a teaching position at the Art Center College of Design
in southern California, where he holds The Distinguished Master of the College
title. He has written two acclaimed books on logo types and letters and The
Art of the Letter summarizes the essentials of his design repertoire and serves
as an introduction to his art and style.
